St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church, under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), is located in rural northern Illinois near Rockford.
The Divine Services are both in Slavonic and English. Divine Liturgy begins at 10:00am on Sundays and is approximately an hour and a half. A luncheon pot-luck coffee hour immediately follows Divine Liturgy. All families and guests are encouraged to enjoy a light meal and, more importantly, share in fellowship. When announced, there are Saturday Vespers which begin at 6:00pm and go for about 45 minutes. Here one can experience beautiful Russian melodies, prayers of petition, psalmody, and seasonal celebrations.
For children ages 2-16 there is a Sunday School program. Classes begin immediately after Liturgy around 11:30am. Bible Study class with Father Luke begins at 12:45pm to which everyone is welcome.
Sunday School is held during the school year beginning on the Sunday following the Church’s New Year (Sep.14) and ending on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
Living a life of Orthodoxy inside and outside the home as a family is one of the most important factors to a child's development in the church.
Troparion - Tone 4
Holy Prince Vladimir, you were like a merchant in search of fine pearls. By sending servants to Constantinople for the Orthodox Faith, you found Christ, the priceless pearl. He appointed you to be another Paul, washing away in baptism your physical and spiritual blindness. We celebrate your memory, asking you to pray for all Orthodox Christians and for us, your spiritual children.
